FR Review:
Known for taking both an “artistic” and a “professional” approach to each con- struction project, Christopher Anna of C & A Custom Builders produces a “pleasant experience” for his clients–and “admirable” results. We hear that Anna brings a sensitive eye for design to his work, thanks to his Arts and Crafts and photography background. C & A works closely with industry professionals, consulting on materials, presenting competitive budgets, and coordinating plans and specs for smaller renovation jobs without an architect attached. In business since 1999, C & A serves discerning architects, decorators and homeowners throughout the New York City area.

Anna grew up in the Garden State and graduated from the School of Visual Arts. After mastering the crafts of custom furniture-making and cabinetry, he moved into the field of contracting, where he now caters to residential and commercial clients. We hear that his “highly skilled” in-house team of twenty handle most of the work, but the company crews up for larger jobs. C & A has expanded its menu of services with the development of their 6,000-square-foot millwork and cabinetry shop, which handles all their custom casework, as well as the addition of an exteriors division, Terraform, for urban landscaping installations, such as rooftop terraces and gardens. Typical projects run the gamut from complete gut renovations on the Upper East Side or Central Park West to the occasional commercial project, such as a Park Avenue plastic surgery center or a couture retail shop downtown. The firm has also expanded its palette to bring more of the natu- ral world to the urban backdrop, working with notable landscape architects and designers on rooftop gardens, terraces and greenscapes. Projects typically range from $400,000–800,000 and beyond, but the firm does take on smaller projects.

Representative Client Comments:
“Work was beautifully done, on-time and on-budget.” “C & A and all of their subs could not have been more professional, considerate and accommodating.” “Incredibly tasteful and creative solutions.” “Chris and his team are always our first choice.” “Most importantly, Chris recognizes the stress that can be caused by a large-scale construction project and he works hard to minimize this disruption.” “Always a ‘can do’ attitude.” “C & A was quite generous in doing touch-up work after we moved in–work necessitated not by them but by movers, handymen and others who helped set up our apartment.” “Work was spec’d quickly, done rapidly (but well) and delivered at a finish date that had been very aggres- sive. These guys were great!” “Despite the occasional hitch, we always felt that C & A would deal with us with honesty and integrity. This is a rare and valuable characteristic in a contractor.” “Their men have treated the building and our neighborhood with the utmost care and respect.”

Project Description & Comments:
1200 sf apartment: demo, complete renovation (floors, ceilings, 1.5 baths, kitchen, sliding door breakfast pod creation, built ins, closets, 2 large wall cabinets).Very easy going yet on top of each phase of the project. Handled every issue with notice, care and to completion without looking to charge extras for every nuisance/issue. Came in on time and on budget with good follow up. Building manager and crew loved Adam and Chris and appreciated their work style, cleanliness and their willingness to work within the rules (both literal and common sense).Chris does exemplary job setting up project and keeping owner informed and Adam was a stellar project manager with attention to detail.Created several custom wood pieces (including a platform bed) and each was a pleasant surprise in terms of quality and detail/craftsmanship.Took direction well from both homeowners (myself and girlfriend) without excess "opinion shopping." Not overtly type A in appearance so owner might initially be concerned but they came through at each phase and are a pleasure to work with and reachable throughout.Highly recommend.

Project Description & Comments:
Chris Anna worked with us to meet our budget restraints before and during the job. His solutions to difficult problems were wonderful. A truly nice man! The workmanship was beyond what we expected, the management of the job by Adam Z was professional, timely and elegant. After dealing with other contractors over the years, I guess it was our turn, finally, to have a wonderful experience. We love our apartment now and both my husband and myself are incredibly picky about details - Chris and Adam met and exceeded all expectations.

Project Description & Comments:
C+A Custom Builders was the Contractor for our recent apartment project located on the 15th floor of a Post War building on NYC's Upper East Side. The 1200 sf project was a complete renovation including kitchen, dining, living, two baths, and a master suite. The scope of work involved new finishes throughout, general carpentry, MEP,lighting, custom millwork, furnishings and storage. The quality level of interior finishes on this renovation was very demanding and C+A's outstanding project management, estimating, and workmanship resulted in a very successful outcome. As with any project, numerous issues came up which needed to be resolved in the field and C+A's Site Super Adam was instrumental in suggesting solutions and presenting options. C+A proved an absolutely great team to work with and I can highly recommend them with clear confidence. They perform consistently from beginning to end at the highest professional level.
