Kathryn McGraw Berry creates modern, calm tableaux that stand the test of time. Whether a Classic Six tweaked toward a loft or a waterfront cabin with a peaceful perspective, Berry develops a composed scene that distinguishes a home from its neighbors. She has a diverse and strong skill set both as a residential and commercial architect and designer. Work has been done with The Rockefeller Group and Keith Richards, and it spans from Park Ave to Beijing to Michigan. A Grosse Pointe native herself, Berry brings that famed classic, clean-lined aesthetic to every project. As the sole proprietor, she selectively takes on apartment renovations and ground-up projects, organizing jobs with her exacting demands to contractors.
Berry received a B.A. in literature from Berkeley, a B.Arch. from Cooper Union, and formed her business in 1985. Clients from twenty years back still love showing friends their renovated homes, which maintain a fresh, contemporary flair. Where other designers get lost in the grandeur of possibilities, Berry stays grounded and approaches obstacles and constraints with a “no gimmicks” practicality. She charges a standard fee based on a combination of hourly rates and/or a percentage of construction costs, which clients consider a worthy investment. The finished work is considered impeccable, and priced relatively under market. Berry’s fastidious work ethic and natural grace earn her the respect of clients and colleagues alike.
