FR Review:
Since 1987, Rusk Renovations has cultivating a culture of quality and service. Heralded for their superior problem-solving acumen and excellent technical ability there is little this firm cannot handle, from posh traditional to sleek, ultra-modern designs. Rusk’s enviable curriculum vitae is highlighted by collaborations with numerous acclaimed designers and architects, including the likes of John B. Murray, Drake/Anderson and David Scott, in such iconic buildings as The Plaza, The San Remo, The Beresford, 56 Leonard and Walker Tower.

Understanding that the “high end of the market is derived from the spirit of the people who create it,” Rusk is comprised of a “conscientious, honest and committed team” focused on strong customer service and a willingness to go the extra mile. The boutique firm is helmed by principal John Rusk, who “moves mountains” when necessary to expedite the building process and keep it “on time and on budget.” Training through a rigorous mentoring program, and a system of standards and practices ensures consistent product delivery. Furthermore, Rusk is shaping a future generation of builders and project managers through his popular Residential Construction and Renovation class at Columbia University.

The firm most regularly acts as a Construction Manager, overseeing project development, mechanical systems and construction details. They have decades-long relationships with owner representatives, architects, designers, artisans, and building management companies. They specialize in the highly complex world of New York City construction, with about 70% of their work in Manhattan and 20% in Brooklyn. Additionally, they have successfully worked with design teams located outside New York using high-tech tools for remote collaboration. Another focus is their wellness systems including expertise in circadian lighting, water filtration and air purification. They notably won two International Property Awards in 2022.

Rusk generally takes on five to ten full-scale renovations at a time and importantly provides every client with a full two-year warranty, rather than the more commonplace one-year. Projects range from $1 to $15 million, and we understand that Rusk’s fees are worth the money for the level of quality you receive in return.

Representative Client Comments:
“They inspired confidence at our first meeting, stayed on budget, and we were very happy with the results. Since then, we’ve recommended Rusk to everyone we know who was planning a renovation, and everyone has thanked us.” “Talented Old-World craftsmen, careful attention to detail in executing architect/designer construction and design expectations.” “If you value your peace of mind, you can’t do better than Rusk Renovations. They have high standards, exceptional integrity, and are a pleasure to work with.” "Rusk did my place 5 years ago and it still looks top notch. Furthermore, they are exceptionally responsive even now if anything needs adjustment."

“The firm provided me with an excellent experience. The crew was reliable, professional, trustworthy and extremely competent.” “John works well with both architects and clients. He is honest and determined to meet both budget and schedule.” “They have a gadget for everything.” “The cleanest gut renovation site that I have ever seen.” “Superb quality and craftsmanship mixed with a helpful, knowledgeable ‘can do’ attitude.” “The man is a mensch, one of the best. I give a copy of his book to everyone of my kitchen clients. I suggest they read it before they hire him.” “A+ quality and A+ customer service.”

A wonderful guy, I love his approach. He's so involved in the community. His entire staff from high to low is a delight to work with, from project managers to millworkers to straight painters. They know how to adjust for the client.

Project Description & Comments:
I just finished working with Rusk Renovation and was delighted with the process and the outcome. They were excellent about the estimate, doing quickly and coming in on target. They even adjusted the final cost DOWN (hard to believe, but true) once they figured out that they could easily thread the electrical wires through the ceiling without having having to paint.

The project manager was terrific, Matt, as was the day-to-day supervisor, Norbert. Both went out of their way to be sure that project was on track with excellent quality. I was also impressed with their trade resources. Both the AV guy (Michael at Spectra) and the metal refinisher (Remco) have proven to be wonderful references that I have continued to use.

For me, there would be no reason to call another contractor. They get the job done well and are mindful of costs.

Project Description & Comments:
Rusk, Inc. built our apartment from scratch 5 years ago. To this day, the apartment looks impeccable. The project involved may different industries since we had to do the perimeter walls insulation, floor slab, sub flooring, flooring, studs, the whole electricity, installation of the HVAC system, the whole plumbing, radiators, dropped ceilings, kitchen, bathrooms, stairs, concrete, glass, skylights, new roof membrane, roof terrace, carpentry, cabinetry etc... Rusk managed all the workers and materials. They were very well organized and John Rusk had many good advice taking into consideration maintenance and esthetics. He's a great listener and always try to come up with the best solution. It was a complex project but I always trusted Rusk, their approach and their work ethics. Once the project was done, Rusk was always there to come fix things if needed and I always felt they had my back. The service after construction is unbelievable. Even 5 years after completion.
