FR Review:
In need of great home-style food for last-minute company, your daughter's birthday party or even just after a particularly exhausting week? Manhattanites have Mitchel London Foods on speed dial for such occasions. Their services extend far beyond just drop-off: Mitchel London also does a substantial amount of full-service catering, as well as supplying experienced chefs and servers and coordinating china and equipment rental. The style is wholesome, with a definite nod to comfort food. Mitchel himself loves all things deliciously simple, like a perfectly roasted chicken or a rustic apple tart, and he is not afraid to lavish rich crème fraîche or extra virgin olive oil. The presentation is artful yet straightforward (no appetizers served on individual spoons here) and popular items include miniature quiches, beef tagliata, lemon schnitzel and grilled salmon.

Mitchel opened his catering company over fifteen years ago, after serving as Chef at Gracie Mansion for former mayor Ed Koch. He works side-by-side with his personable wife, Carmela, who handles all of the coordinating and client aspects of the business. Together, the two (and a staff of 25+) also operate a retail space on the Upper East Side and a casual dining spot called Burgers & Cupcakes. Prices are low in comparison to other catering outfits, as they aim to keep event prices in line with their drop-off menu. A shrimp cocktail platter for 10 to 12 is priced at $120, with a 16 lb roasted turkey for Thanksgiving coming in at $195. A slew of sides, from rosemary garlic potatoes to roasted asparagus, start at about $4 per person. Though certain events call for a caterer employing more bells and whistles, Mitchel London Foods is a dependable option for delicious, "comforting" catering that won't break the bank.

"They really know how to layer flavors." "Rich, delicious food." "Carmela is a joy to coordinate with and always very accommodating of my requests." "Their beef tagliata is so beautifully sliced."
