FR Review:
Sallie Giordano heads up the New York office of this renowned Palm Beach firm, begun by her mother more than a quarter of a century ago. Guided by their young soiree-set client base, 90 percent of the work is traditional with a kick—Greenwich-meets-Lilly Pulitzer by way of Ray and Charles Eames. Supporters often mention Giordano’s creativity, citing a range of styles that can be competently executed, including 30s Art Deco and more contemporary. Still, most rooms are anchored by traditional American case-goods and custom linen textiles. It is also mentioned that the firm is very well organized, fun to work with, and committed to building on the client’s thematic cues.

Giordano graduated from Georgetown and was a journalist for several years before joining the family practice in 1994. Associate Alexandra Wernink–who studied Art History at Kenyon and worked at Bergdorf Goodman before moving into design–also helms key projects. The practice has recently completed several first apartments for young New Yorkers, a range of Greenwich and Long Island homes, and several vacation homes across the country. A few rooms are often the starting point. Working with no design fee, a classic retail is charged on products, with standard oversight fees. Clients mention that Giordano will offer a variety of quality product choices, allowing the client broad economic and stylistic latitude. It has been mentioned, however, that she can be quite adamant that her clients make sound design choices, and that she would rather go back to the proverbial drawing board than settle for anything less than perfection.

Representative Client Comments:
“They are practical, helpful decorators who just get it.” “Sallie will bring twenty to 30 fabric samples and will have an elaborate discussion about them. But if we do not agree, 30 more will be here the following week.” “You don’t feel like you’re living in your grandmother’s house, but that you’ve inherited some of her better pieces.” “Though she has a full life outside decoration, she makes up for it with incredible energy and dedication.” “Helped to guide me in the right direction despite my initial reluctance. Now, I’m so glad she was persistent.” “Not a superstar, but a real pro.” “Sallie is perfect for the client with strong ideas who wants a very active relationship with their designer.” “When we first saw the space, we wondered where the money had gone. But after living in it for a while, we realized it had been worth it. With Sallie, you don’t see the quality, you feel it.” “Sallie will custom color the Bennison in a imperceptibly different shade, which makes all the difference.” “She never runs out of steam, just keeps going until the last lampshade is completed.”
