FR Review:
For antique restoration and finishes, custom reproduction of antiques, gilding, leafing and French polishing, insiders say Christophe Pourny is among the best in the business. With a lifetime of experience restoring furniture and creating antique finishes–he grew up in a family of antique dealers in France–Pourny started his own firm in 1995. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Nice in art history. Pourny is particularly talented with hand finishes on walls and panelings, in addition to the restoration of antique furniture (mainly 18th-, 19th- and even early 20th-century). He deals with pieces from around the world, including objects from France, Italy, Spain, England, America and Asia. A large part of the business is French polishing.

For certain pieces that require unique and specialized care, Pourny also has a global network of craftsmen at his service. If a job can be done on site, the firm will go into a home for touch up and refinishing. He’ll even go into a home while a client is away on vacation to care for an entire collection before the client’s return. However, Pourny prefers to bring pieces into his 1,500-square-foot Brooklyn workshop.

The company has been widely published in magazines such as Elle Decor, The New York Times Magazine, House Beautiful and Metropolitan Home. The majority of its work comes through interior designers and high-end contractors, but Pourny also takes on new private clients. However, be prepared for prices to match this firm’s high-end reputation.

Representative Client Comments:
“Amazing. One of the best in the country.” “His finishes are top quality and his mechanical ability (especially working with old locks) cannot be matched.” “Handles restoration of pieces owned by kings and presidents with ease.” “His work is beautiful and long-lasting.”
